5497. Go to the Elegant Farmer in Mukwonago

When our vacation plans got thrown into a tizzy, we decided to take a couple short baseball road trips over the holiday weekends this year. Minneapolis for Memorial Day and Beloit for 4th of July. I advised the hubby we can go to the East Troy Railroad Museum on the way to Beloit. He was more interested since he saw it at the Railroad show in April. Stacy advised us to park at Elegant Farmer and take the Railway to East Troy and back. It was easier that way.

The Elegant Farmer is open year round 9-6 except major holidays. Weekends in fall, there is apple picking, corn mazes, and a pumpkin patch. Of course in July there isn't much to see except for the farm store.

The Elegant Farmer has a huge farm store. They sell everything from popcorn to cheese and pies. They are famous for their pie in a bag. They have wide variety of pickled items including pickled asparagus that I said we should take to the picnic we were going to the next day. The hubby didn't think so.

We picked up a small apple pie for dinner Monday night and some giant cookies. I was surprised when the hubby went with chocolate chunk and not a frosted sugar cookies.

While we waited for the train, we ate our cookies. My white chocolate cocoa was very good but so large that I only ate half it.

We also explored the depot. I was surprised to see an Indiana Dunes National Park placard at the depot explaining how the South Shore cars came to the East Troy. It was very interesting and too bad there was no stamp for my passport.

Everyone raved about the pie in a bag. We were less than impressed. A whole lotta crust. The apples were good but the amount of crust was insane and I love crust. It was almost a doughy crust. Maybe because it was 2 days old. I just was not impressed and glad we only got a little one.

If you've never been to the Elegant Farmer it is worth the trip for the bakery along. Those cookies were amazing. I'm sure it's even better in fall when apples and pumpkins are available even if it's a bit crazier. You can't miss the big yellow barn.
