Wandering Downtown East Troy

After we had ice cream at J. Lauber's, we had some time to kill before taking the electric railway back to the Elegant Farmer, the hubby suggested we go check out the square.

The square is about a half mile or so from the railroad museum which is an easy walk. They were setting up for the parade later that night. The square consists of various shops and restaurants around a green space where they probably have concerts. There was a book store that was closed. The hubby was probably glad for that. There was also a small clock shop. Also the East Troy House Restaurant anchors one of the corners of the square.

Heading back to the museum, we stumbled upon the East Troy Area Historical Society. Since we had time to a little time to kill, we wandered inside. The East Troy Area Historical Society is only open Saturdays 10-2 and Wednesdays 9-12. Lucky us.

The volunteers were very friendly and explained about the building. There is one main exhibit room which consists of a lot of random items from the East Troy area. Despite being one room, it is organized to an extent. They could do a lot more if they had a bigger space. There was a volunteer talking to a group of visitors about a fire in the area.

The building does also include a movie theater and a library. The library contains books and stories from area families and business. We did not check it out but if you have family from the area you could spend hours trying to find their stories.

We didn't spend as much time it the historical society as I would have liked because we had to catch the railway. The volunteer talking was very interesting and I would have loved to crash the group to learn more.

If you have time to kill in East Troy, definitely check out the square with it's cute shops, restaurants, and historical society. We will have to come back to eat the East Troy House Restaurant some day.
