Quarantine Adventures: Listen to the Grand Ole Opry

Before you go but Amy you already went to the Grand Ole Opry last year and we are in the middle of a pandemic, I know I was. However since no one can be at the Opry, they are still doing shows to keep the circle unbroken and continue as the longest running radio show without an audience.

Initially we would watch the Grand Ole Opry live on Facebook. Circle All Access was providing video broadcasts on select TV channels and their Facebook page. We saw Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Marty Stuart, and Amy Grant among others this way. Bobby Bones did a great job hosting but the hubby would tune up the radio broadcast during commercials to hear the Opry announcer.

After a few weeks of listening to the Opry on Facebook Live and the radio for commercials, I just gave up and we started listening to the Opry as the Opry was intended to be listened to on the radio. Every Saturday night at 7 PM, I would Google WSM to find WSM AM 650 and we would listen to the Opry on the radio like they did back in the day. Then I got smart. I downloaded the WSM app so I wouldn't have to search every week.

Honestly we probably listen to the Opry more for the commercials than the artists especially if the artists aren't one of our favorites. During commercials, the announcers talk about their sponsors including Durango boots, Goo-Goo Clusters, and Johnny Cash's kitchen. It is always fun to hear those announcements.

Plus by listening to the Opry you can register to win a pair of boots. You can't do that on the live stream.

Saturday nights no matter where listening to the Orpy has been become a tradition and probably one I won't give up once live returns to normal.
