7164. Have Wagyu Burger

Wagyu beef is trendy lately. It is a special breed of beef from Japan that has extraordinary marbling and a rich buttery flavor. The hubby has always wanted to try Wagyu beef. Last year, I saw Wagyu burgers at Haen's but didn't buy them since we just had burgers the previous week. He was like you should have got them. I did not see them again. I love every time we went to Haens. Then the hubby comes home with a pack of Wagyu burgers.

The burgers were sold in 3 packs at $10.99/lb. Each pack is about a pound. The hubby thought was reasonable. We changed our meal plan for the week and added Wagyu burgers to the menu.

We fired up the griddle grill and grilled the Wagyu burgers. They grilled up wonderfully with very little grease.

The taste was wonderful. It was very lean. The hubby thought it reminded them about elf. It was not greasy at all.

We definitely will pick up Wagyu burgers again. Maybe we will even get some Wagyu steaks in the future. If you ever see Wagyu burgers or beef, pick up some. You will not regret it.

7100. Make smash burgers

We got the flat top grill back in July. Pinterest is full of ideas for a Blackstone type grill. One of these is for smash burgers. I decided that I wanted to make smash burgers.

I found directions on Pinterest. Then I found a deal on a burger press on Amazon. The burger press came and the hubby was excited to try making smash burgers.

Smash burgers are exactly what they sound like. Burgers that you smash or press flat. They are quite simple to make. All you need is some ground beef (or turkey or chicken if that's your jam) plus whatever seasonings you normally put in your homemade burgers. The hubby keeps it simple and just uses beef.

To make them

1. Roll your beef into balls about the size of a good meatball or dumpling.

2. Make sure your grill is well oiled and heated up.

3. Place your burgers balls on the grill with enough room to smash your balls

4. Using a burger press or spatula, press down on the ball until your burger patty is evenly flat and thin. Hold on for about 10 seconds. Repeat for all the burger balls. You can use parchment paper to avoid sticking.

5. Season your burger patties, if not already done so.

6. Cook until your done to your likeness. You can add cheese here and let melt on the grill.

7. Enjoy

The hubby is really impress by the new burger press. We will be making smash burgers a lot this summer.  If you have a griddle or flat top grill, definitely make some smash burgers this grilling season.

6913. Make pizza on the grill

I've always wanted to make pizza on the grill. When the girls decided we should do pizza on the grill for our monthly get together, I was game. Danielle had a new grill. I said I would bring the crust. Turns out I ended up bring the sauce and cheese too. We had plenty of cheese to share.

Not quite sure how to make pizza on the grill, I resorted to Google. Google informed me to put the crust on the grill grates for a few minutes and flip it over. Then add the sauce and toppings. This way the crust gets done on both sides. It also suggested to pre-cook any meat since the pizza will take only a few more minutes once the sauce and toppings are on.

I made the curst at home. Instead of splitting it into 2 balls, I split it in 4 balls. Then I flattened out the dough between parchment with my hands. We transferred the dough to the grill, flipped it upside down on the grill, and removed the parchment paper. It worked really well. I was a bit concerned about the transfer process but it worked better than expected.

When the crust was done, we flipped it over and added the topping. Piled with cheese and other toppings, we cooked it for a few minutes. If we wanted the cheese extra bubbly and the toppings done more, we moved it to the top rack of the grill.

The pizzas turned out really well. I would totally make them again. Just make sure your grill racks are clean. The hubby thinks we could do it on a pizza stone but you don't get the grill marks of a grilled pizza. We shall see if the hubby ever decided we will make them at home or not.
