4330. See Pewit’s Nest in Baraboo

When Stacy and I realized there wasn't anything else we wanted to do in the Dells on Sunday since we got everything we wanted to do done Saturday, we started to look at my bucket list I sent Stacy for other options. Between checking the list and consulting Google Maps, we found a couple of state parks and natural areas to visit. One of them was Pewit's Nest just southwest of Baraboo.

Pewit's Nest is a natural gorge cut by Skillet Creek. There is a walking trail to the mouth of the gorge and to the top of the bluff. The cliffs and areas around the cliffs are closed. It isn't big and there isn't much parking. You can not park on the road. It is free to get into.

It is short walk to the creek where you can see part of the waterfall created by Skillet Creek. It was shallow enough that I could walk across the rocks to the other side to see if I could get better pictures. If we had the right shoes with we probably would have walked in the creek.

We climbed the path to the top of the cliffs trying to get a good picture of the waterfall. With the leaves, it was hard to see unless you climb on the cliff and sat on the rocks which Stacy did. I felt one of should stay away from the ledge just in case we needed to get help.

Although it is a small and there is no picnic area (food and beverage is technically not allowed), it would a nice spot to relax and let kids or dogs play in the water. I am sure it is gorgeous in fall and winter. I would definitely come back during those seasons.
