Back in June, Stacy and I went in search of where Sputnik landed in Manitowoc. We found a brief history of it and a memorial garden but not the actual spot. Our GPS was not being very helpful. Apparently I missed the memo about it being in the street.
The hubby had a softball tournament in Manitowoc and it was within walking distance of Rahr-West Art Museum which is on the corner near where Sputnik landed. I decided to walk and try to find it again. Stacy was busy otherwise she might had joined me.
This time I did my research. It told me it was in the street near the corner of Park St and N 8th Street and it was a circle on the pavement. Seriously I don't know how we missed this except to say I did not do my research. It was pretty obviously when I knew exactly where to look.
Here's the best part, there is a plaque on the sidewalk that I probably walked by to get a picture of the front of the museum last time.
Lesson learned -- always do your research.
It was a pretty cool to see. I then went in the museum to check out the art and see a replica of the actual piece that crash landed.
Channel your inner geek and go check out where this random piece of Russian Spacecraft crashed back in the '60s.
