I wanted to go to the History Museum Museum in South Bend so I could get my stamp in my Baseball Attractions Passport. When we got there they asked if we wanted to do both The History Museum and the Studebaker Museum as they are housed in the same building. I asked how long both would take as we had to get to Dayton before the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Park Site closed. She said about 2 hours. I looked at the hubby and said we can probably do both in an hour or so.
Studebaker National Museum is located downtown South Bend. Like I mentioned it is in the same building as The History Museum so you might as well do both museum. It is open 10-5 Mon-Saturday and 12-5 on Sundays. Admission is $11/adult for just the Studebaker National Museum or $16 for both museums. They give you stickers to wear so they know which admission you bought.
After going through the History Museum, we headed to the Studebaker National Museum. One the main floor was lot of older model Studebakers including several Presidential Carriages from the 1800s.
One of my favorites was an original funeral hearse.
There were also several cars used to set records across the US.
After dodging a tour group, we headed to the basement to check out more cars. I liked the basement as half the cars were up on car ramps like you see at the mechanics. It was a great use of the space to fit in more cars.
Of course I had to send dad a picture of the mail Jeep.
We took the elevator to the third floor where are all the shiny (other) cars were. The hubby got to see a Red Ford Mustang
There was an old fire truck which we always like seeing.
There was even a drive in diner display.
Back on the main level, we passed a fun kids area where they could pretend to be car mechanics.
I am glad we took the time to check out the Studebaker National Museum. It was real worth it. If you are ever in South Bend, even if you are not a big into cars, go check out the Studebaker National Museum. Lincoln's and Grant's presidential carriages are worth the price of admission.
