5649. Go to Vern’s Cheese in Chilton

Last year while I walked when the hubby had a tournament at Chilton High School, I wandered past Vern's Cheese. This year, I decided to check it out.

Vern's Cheese is located just off of downtown in Chilton. It is open Mon-Fri 9-5 and 8:30-2 on Saturdays. It is within easy walking distance of Chilton High School.

I wanted cheese curds. They had no fresh cheese curds when I was there. It was all packaged sealed cheese curds. They definitely did not squeak. I was disappointed.

Despite not having fresh cheese curds when I was there, Vern's does offer a wide selection of cheese including mozzarella whips which were very good.

They also carry cheese from other cheese stores.

I do like they have options to make your own gift boxes with the sausage, wine, and other gifts.

I would definitely go back for the mozzarella whips and to try some of the other cheeses. If you ever find yourself in Chilton, go check out Vern's.

Checking out Carr Valley Cheese

The hubby said we should check out Carr Valley Cheese as they claim to have the best cheese curds. The main store is in La Valle which is on the bucket list. There is also a location downtown Wisconsin Dells and since we were driving through the Dells on the way to the train museum, I figured we could stop and check it out.

Carr Valley Cheese in the Dells is located by the Glockenspiel. You can't miss the store as it has the Alpine half timber house look to it. The store is open 9-5 daily. Parking after Sept 30th is free downtown.

They have samples of various cheese through out the store. Each of the samples are in individual cups. I like the how sanitary it is but all that waste... The spicy beer cheese definitely had a kick. I did enjoy the Creama Kasa.. I really wasn't a fan of the creamed honey.

We picked up a bag of cheese curds, some elk sticks, and some beef sticks. Either sitting in the hot car all day ruined the taste of the cheese curds or they were not very good. I was not impressed. I had one or two once we got home and the hubby ate the rest. I thought they were hard and not very squeaky. I have had better. Apparently the hubby thought they were good or just ate them because we bought them.

If you haven't checked out Carr Valley cheese, I would suggest hitting it up on your next trip through the Dells. It is almost kitty-corner from the candy store. I do want to visit the location in La Valley and hopefully not let the cheese curds sit in the car all day.

5083. Go to Seguin's House of Cheese in Marinette

On our way to the Yooper Winery we passed a cheese place. I made a mental note to stop some day because random cheese places are always fun. We had some time before dinner and the cheese place was open until 6 so we actually stopped.

Seguin's House of Cheese is the first cheese shop after you leave Marinette. It is open daily from 8-6. It is more than a cheese shop.

There have moccasins. One day I will splurge and buy a good pair of moccasins. Stay tuned and find out if I get some in South Dakota or Michigan later this year.

Of course they have cheese -- cheese curds, string cheese, cheese whips, and blocks of cheese. We opted to get some cheese whips which we prefer over string cheese.

What goes best with cheese? Sausage of course. Seguin's had their fair share of sausage as well. Beef sticks, summer sausage, salami to name a few. We picked up some beef sticks -- another favorite.

Like any good cheese store in Wisconsin, Seguin's has alcohol as well. They had local craft beer and wine.

Of course there was jams, jellies, picked vegetables, pie filling, and salsa. We did pick up a jar of cherry pie filling. I can't to make a cherry pie with Door County cherry pie filing. There was also ice cream and chocolate. Seguin's really had a little bit of everything.

What was going to be a quick stop turned into a pricy stop with all the goodies we bought but it was worth it. If you are up in the Marinette/Menomonie area, Seguin's is definitely worth the stop.
